What is Biodiversity Conservation?
Sustainable agriculture can help conserve the biodiversity. When no chemical pesticides are applied, the cultivation will have a less negative impact on the local flora and fauna. Living fences, agroforestry and water shed management also helps to create habitat for local species. Natural predators are an important part of the pest control used in organic farming, and through these methods the surrounding biodiversity is integrated at the farm.
Through the establishment of community seed banks local varieties of crops are conserved, this is an important model for biodiversity conservation. The revival of traditional millets, paddy and vegetables also helps to preserve different varieties and species of these crops.
